We started Steel City Spotlight for a simple reason: nobody covers Pittsburgh the way Pittsburgh deserves to be covered — with love, with detail, and with the long memory of people who actually live here.
We're a family. We argue about the Steelers at dinner, we've sat through cold nights at PNC Park, and we've walked every bridge worth walking. This magazine is our way of putting all of that into one place — original reporting alongside the best of what's happening across the 'Burgh.
What we cover
The black and gold, the Pens, the Bucs — and just as importantly, the neighborhoods, the food, and the history that make this city what it is. Some of it is breaking news. Most of it is the kind of story you only get from people who care.
How we're funded
We keep the lights on through memberships and our shop — not through a wall of ads. That means we answer to readers, not advertisers. Becoming a member is the single biggest way you can keep independent Pittsburgh journalism alive.
